These actions stacked on top of each other blend so well together, and are amazing for creating soft, cinematic skin tones. It is really interesting to see how they respond differently to different styles of images, lighting conditions and existing colour tones in the RAW file. I love how in-depth and customizable the actions are with the amount of layers each one has - you are able to go directly into each action and play with the individual layers to create bespoke looks. The hard work has already been done for you, and then you can just play! I just love how easy it is to create professional looking colour grading with a click of a button, yet still being totally customizable with never-ending possibilities of where you can take it.

As a long time fan of the work of Kate Woodman, I was thrilled to be asked to give her second installment of The Cinematic Collection for The Color Lab a test run. I found the actions to be great on their own but also to work really well layered.
My layering process involves tweaking opacity on individual layers and then the group as a whole. At times, as with these examples, I will turn off the layers inside the group that create too heavy a contrast, as I find it builds up quickly due to the beautiful richness of Kate's colour usage.
As a result, in both instances I opted for a more subtle approach and used the actions as a final "polisher" to help bring harmony to the images and even out colour tones.
I really enjoyed this collection and spent a solid week experimenting back and forth with options. Can't wait to apply them to more work! I definitely get that cinematic colour treatment feel with each action.

Using the new Color Lab Collection blew me away! The cinematic tones of this collection brings my work to the next level, and really gives it that “movie“ feel. The best part about these actions is that they do not become murky or overdone when applied, and there was no weird banding in my background like a lot of other actions can create. Being able to make adjustments in each layer makes for an endless amount of customizations with these actions, so it’s not hard to get them to work on virtually any photograph.
