Photographer Spotlight: Stef King

  • February 25, 2018

I’m so honored to be able to interview Stef King today! She’s a photographer based out of Australia and she’s amazing at everything she shoots. From beauty, fashion, portraits, on-location work, and more, she does it very well. Her sense of color style is gorgeous and when I saw how wonderfully she used our actions, we wanted to hear more about her work and about how she uses the actions in her workflow!

Be sure to check out her website and Instagram as well!

Here’s a video about her being interviewed by Elinchrom Australia as well.

What type of work do you primarily shoot, why do you think color toning is important in your work, and what does it help convey?

Hi, Im Stef I’m a fashion/portrait shooter based in Australia. Colour toning plays a huge role in my workflow, colour, tone and mood are all elements that help me to tell a story with my images.

What inspired you to begin using our actions?

I saw some before and after images on the website and at the time I was working on a set of studio fashion images and I felt the series lacked that extra “feel” or “mood” so I downloaded one of the trial actions offered and then ended up downloading them all!

What is your favorite part about using the actions in your workflow (when you do use them)?

The actions are very malleable, each action can be used in endless possible ways and that really appeals to me.  Each action is made up of many layers that can be very subtly or dramatically edited to change the overall look of an image. I use the actions at the very end of my workflow. Once my image for all purposes is “ready” which to me means its been retouched, skin tone is neutral, backgrounds are cleaned up, image is cropped and shadows and highlights are looking good, once all of that is done then I will play with choosing a Color Lab action to finish of the image and give it that final touch 🙂

What will others find when they give the actions a try?

I think its important to know the actions are not a one click quick colour tone solution, they are much more sophisticated and amazing than that!! This set of actions are perfect if you are looking to create your own style of colour tones and your own unique image “mood” The final results you can achieve from them are literally endless!
