A while back we set the Enchanted Diversity creative challenge, in light of the Black Fae Day and Enchanted Asian Day movements. We have finally compiled some of the community favourites from the Fairytales and Fantasy with Bella Kotak and The Color Lab Collective Facebook groups!

“If you didn’t know, today is officially Black Fae Day which was a day created to highlight the importance of having more diversity in fantasy realms. We decided to get the kids in on the fun too. We had a blast creating our afrofuturistic cyber fairy with @the_avamarie “

I always loved the different asian cultures, art, aesthetics and traditional clothings. The cultures are so different and each country has its own magic. And I just love the idea to share more artwork of the beautiful people living there or have their roots in this enchanting continent.

Sharing a shot I took in 2019. The theme was “Ikebana” is from the Japanese ‘ikeru’ (生ける, “to arrange (flowers), have life, be living”) and ‘hana’ (花, “flower”). This was something we were hoping to achieve.

Happy for this initiative and gladly supporting everyone I am not good with words, but I always have been fascinated by asian culture and it’s huge diversity.

I photographed Kalia Thao yesterday out in Palmer Alaska in a beautiful lilac tree. She rushed over after a wedding she was attending so we could hop into this tree before the rain washed all the blooms away.

Happy #enchantedasianday and a shout-out to all the amazing asian creators. I hope that this day brings awareness to all the ways the fantasy community has been impacted/influenced by asian artists across the world and encourages more inclusivity in our own fantasy works and collaborations.

Mild inspo was taken from Taoist deities, mixed in with fairies, and then aquatic themes. I’m so glad I managed to squeeze in a new piece for this and for my team of tired and hungry girls.
It’s been so amazing to see the diverse range of participants for Enchanted Asian Day , and also equally amazing to read your unique stories and about your experiences. I fully hope that we can raise visibility and appreciation and that we continue to spread beauty through this space! Special thanks to the other cofounders @bellakotak and @tornandpolished for their incredible contributions as well.

(An aside: I’ve never really liked working with cool tones too much when editing- and yet I’m on a cool tone kick! It’s so weird to me)

I’m very lucky to have this beauty as a friend since high school She has Vietnamese roots and we created lots of photos together! This one is from the first photoshoot I’ve created after the pandemic – we barely managed to take a few photos before the sudden storm started. I edited it using Iris from Fine Art Actions, along with some NikCollection filters. Before version in the comments!

This is a self portrait shot based on the Japanese folklore of the fox spirit Kitsune. I’m so grateful for this initiative that allow me to see others like me in a fantasy setting, one that I for the longest time, have thought that it was only a Eurocentric space. Shoutout to all the amazing Asian creators and I look forward to be inspired by you all.
